Map & Fiber Network

The Map page plots your clients and routers on a map, and lets you draw and manage your fiber network topology (cable paths, ODP/ODC, poles, and POPs).

Map Layers

Use the layer switcher in the top-right to change the view:

  • Street (OSM) — standard street map (default)
  • Satellite — Esri World Imagery satellite (free, no API key) with a place-labels overlay

Drawing Fiber Paths

Drawing and editing paths/ODPs requires the Manage Network (network.manage) capability.

Start Drawing

Click a client or router pin, then choose Add path in its popup. That point becomes the start of the path.

Add Waypoints

Click on the map to add waypoints that follow the real cable route.

End the Path

Finish in one of three ways:

  • Click another element (client/router/ODP) → the path binds to that end
  • Free end → the path stops at the last point
  • Finish → ODP → create a new ODP inline as the path’s end

Save

Fill in the dialog (name, cable type, color, notes) and save.

Paths are drawn as lines that follow their endpoint pins — move a client or ODP pin and the line moves with it. The path popup shows cable length (computed from coordinates) and a delete button.

ODPs & Nodes

Topology points (ODP, ODC, joint, pole, and POP) are stored as nodes that can serve as the endpoint of many paths — the network tree emerges from paths that share the same node.

Click Add ODP, then fill in name, kind, splitter, and port capacity. Used ports are derived automatically from the number of connected paths — not entered manually.

A node can’t be deleted while any path is still bound to it. Detach or delete those paths first.

KMZ/KML Import

Already have your network mapped in Google Earth? Import it directly.

Open Import

Click Import on the toolbar above the map, then upload a .kml or .kmz file.

Choose What to Import

The system reads points and cables from the file and groups them by category (ODP, ODC, pole, POP, and more). Pick which categories to bring in (clients and ONUs are off by default) and toggle Cables/paths on or off (on by default).

Commit

The system saves the selected nodes, then snaps each cable to the nearest node at both ends. Splitter/port details are picked up from each point’s description where available.

Review Queue

Items that can’t be matched with confidence are flagged so nothing silently goes wrong:

The review counters at the bottom are clickable and fly you straight to items that still need attention. Continue route resumes drawing the cable from its loose end to a node/new end, and the review flag clears once saved.

  • Undo/Redo for map edits (create/delete/edit nodes & paths, cable reroute)
  • Auto-fit — on open, the map frames your whole network
  • Automatic thinning — when zoomed out, nearby pins/cables are summarised as one representative per area so the map stays readable; items needing attention (red/amber) still stand out. Zoom in to reveal everything again.
  • Search spans clients, ODPs/nodes, and fiber paths

The Map feature requires the Map (map) subscription to be active for your company.
